KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy traffic was reported from the Gombak toll plaza heading towards the east coast as city folk made their way to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Checks saw traffic moving slowly before the toll plaza heading to Genting Sempah, Bukit Tinggi and Lentang.

The Malaysian Highway Authority(MHA) closed-circuit television footage showed traffic flow on the East Coast Expressway 1 and 2 to be smooth in both directions.

Slow-moving traffic was also seen on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound from Senai to Kulai, and from Juru to Sungai Dua and Southville City to the Seremban Rest and Service Area, and from Ayer Keroh to Jasin.

The MHA in a statement today said over 2.5 million vehicles were expected to flood major highways in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday, which is on Monday.

The highway authority said the increase in traffic would last until Tuesday.

During the holiday weekend, the MHA said the average traffic on highways operated by PLUS Malaysia Bhd was expected to reach up to 2.2 million vehicles, followed by 181,000 vehicles on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway; and 80,000 vehicles and 60,000 vehicles on Phase 1 and 2 of the East Coast Highway, respectively.

Motorists are advised to check the current status of the highways through MHA's official social media channels such as the official Facebook page, the X application @llmtrafik, and TikTok @llmtrafik.
