KUANTAN: Anih Bhd, the concessionaire of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), anticipates some 1.5 million vehicles will ply through both its expressways during Chinese New Year.

Chief executive officer Imran Gulcharan Abdullah said a significant increase in traffic to the east coast was expected today evening till Feb 10, while traffic towards westbound was anticipated to rise on Feb 12 and 13.

"The estimated traffic volume over the next six days is expected to be 1,054,000 vehicles on the KLK and 423,000 on LPT1. This represents a 75 per cent increase in traffic on the KLK and a 57 per cent rise on the LPT1 compared with the daily average traffic.

"We anticipate a rise in traffic volume. To ensure a smooth flow, Anih has made preparations, focusing on toll operations, traffic management, highway patrols, and facility management. It has increased its number of personnel by 20 per cent, including traffic control teams for patrol and assistance purposes.

"A total of 156 People's Volunteer Corps members are on duty to manage and control traffic flow at toll plazas, rest and service areas and laybys, which are expected to be congested," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Imran said that since the Chinese New Year celebration was heightened with the additional holiday, more people would take advantage of it.

"We have proposed a Travel Time Advisory (TTA) for reference and guidance for all KLK, and LPT1 users to ease congestion and facilitate more efficient and comfortable journeys. The TTA can be viewed on our official social media," he said.

Imran reminded highway users to prioritise their safety and that of others by practicing responsible driving.

"Highway users are encouraged to stop at rest and service areas or laybys when necessary. Observe road signs, speed limits, and instructions from highway personnel to ensure everyone's safety and comfort," he said.
