KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow along several major highways nationwide is expected to increase significantly this evening as people begin to return to their hometowns ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration next week.

Checks revealed that traffic was slow-moving at several locations along the main highways, including the North-South Expressway (Plus), Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT 1).

There was a bumper-to-bumper traffic near the Gombak toll plaza earlier as many decided to start their journey in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) was a hive of activity as commuters were seen waiting to board express buses and return to their hometowns for Raya celebration.

Plus Malaysia Bhd estimated that a total of 2.1 million vehicles per day would use the expressway on April 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 due to the festive holiday, compared to 1.82 million during normal peak hours.
