KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on several major highways is smooth this evening ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration as many flock back to their hometowns since yesterday.
As of 5pm today, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) through the X application reported controlled traffic conditions heading to the north, south, and east coast with no increase in the number of vehicles.
Traffic is moving smoothly in both directions along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK) and the East Coast Expressway (LPT).
However, traffic is reported to be slow for a 2.4 kilometres (km) stretch on the North-South Expressway (Plus) due to an accident at KM404.5 heading north from Lembah Beringin to Tanjung Malim.
An accident is also reported at KM272.8 heading south from Bandar Baru Nilai to Bandar Ainsdale, but no lanes are blocked and traffic is controlled.
About 2.3 million vehicles were expected to leave the capital city via the country's main highways for the Hari Raya holiday.
As a result, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) is reported to be monitoring 122 locations with frequent accidents, especially those involving fatalities nationwide through Ops Selamat.
Federal JSPT director Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, was reported as saying that it involves 46 locations on highways and 76 locations on federal roads.
