MIRI: The charred remains of a 63-year-old man were found inside a car engulfed in flames at an oil palm plantation in Batu Niah last night.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a team of six firefighters was deployed to the scene after the department was alerted of the incident at 11.05 pm.

"Upon arrival, the team found that the fire had extinguished, and the Proton Wira Aeroback was completely burnt.

"The team found the charred remains of the man in the driver's seat of the car," the spokesman said.

Preliminary investigation identified the victim as Chen Kian Seong from Bandar Baru Permyjaya.

The spokesman added that the team extricated the remains of the victim, which were handed over to the police for further action.
