KUCHING: Some 5,000 chickens were killed when one of the 11 chicken coops at a poultry farm in Jalan Matang here was destroyed in a fire today.
Two teams of 16 firefighters from the Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue stations were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 7.11am today.
"Upon arrival at the scene, the team found that the fire was raging in one of the chicken coops. There are a total of 11 coops on the approximately eight-hectare farm, and only one was destroyed in the fire," he said.
He further stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident and estimate the losses suffered by the farmer.
