KOTA KINABALU: Firefighters rescued a nine-month-old boy who was trapped in a car on Gaya Street here, earlier today.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesperson said they received an emergency call at 11.28am.

He said firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station, led by Officer Kamally Marzuki, was dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival, they found a baby boy locked inside a Perodua Myvi car.

"The firefighters unlocked the car door using special equipment," he said in a statement today.

He said it took them nearly 10 minutes before they successfully opened the vehicle door.

"The baby is safe and has been handed over to his parents.

"After ensuring the safety of the child, the operation ended at 11.44am," he said.
