JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department has commenced the Proof of Concept (PoC) for the QR code-based immigration clearance at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), today.
State Immigration acting director Mohd Faizal Shamsudin said the first day of the PoC saw smooth operations and positive feedback from travellers using the QR code system at the KSAB Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, and Security (CIQS) complex.
Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the MyTrip QR code system, which began operations yesterday (June 1) at KSAB, would undergo a three-month trial Proof of Concept (PoC) period, before the system is expected to be implemented at all checkpoints nationwide.
The initiative is aimed to facilitate easier cross-border travel to Singapore for Malaysian citizens.
He said the QR code system would be implemented at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar CIQ in the near future.
"We are committed to provide the best service to enhance cross-border movement efficiency," he said.
The QR code system is part of a broader effort to address congestion at the country's two main entry points and to improve traffic flow management.
In the first phase, the QR code system is available to Malaysian citizens travelling by bus or motorcycle.
Travellers must register through the MyTRIP feature available via the MySejahtera application.
Currently, five motorcycle lanes and four bus lanes were equipped with the QR code immigration clearance system, at both entry and exit points at KSAB.
Faizal said the number of counters would be gradually increased in subsequent phases.
He added despite the ability of QR code-based clearance, the MBike, e-gate and manual counters would remain open to frequent cross-border travellers.
He advised travellers to log into their official social media channels for traffic updates and live-streaming of the traffic flow at both CIQs.
