KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should be given time to investigate the awarding of a Selangor government contract to a company linked to a minister's husband, said Fahmi Fadzil.

The communications minister urged the public not to speculate on the matter.

"If the MACC deems that there are no elements of corruption and no issues (with the tender process), so be it.

"But if the MACC says that there is something (wrong with the tender), then action will be taken. This is what has been reiterated by the prime minister," Fahmi said after the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Kita Madani Carnival 2024 here today.

The Selangor government had defended the appointment of Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd for its Selangor Mobility initiative.

The chief executive officer of Asia Mobility is Ramachandran Munyiandy, who is the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

State Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han had said Asia Mobility was one of two companies selected for the Demand Responsive Transit project.

The other company is Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd.

Ng said that both companies had been approved by the Land Public Transport Agency.

On Monday, the MACC said there was no issue in the awarding of the contract to Asia Mobiliti as it was done by the Selangor government and not by Yeoh's ministry.
