KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated investigations into the awarding of a contract to a firm linked to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh's husband following new leads received from several complaints.

According to sources, MACC received new complaints regarding the appointment of a minister's husband to provide a proof of concept for a transportation project by the Selangor government.

He said the complaints and information have provided new leads that warrant further investigation.

"Consequently, an in-depth probe is currently underway to verify the authenticity of these new leads.

"The investigation encompasses potential abuse of power and governance issues, focusing on compliance with treasury directives in the appointment process of the said company by the Selangor state government," the source said.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, when contacted, confirmed that several complaints and information have been received regarding the matter.

"The public is reminded not to speculate or discuss this issue openly, but to allow the MACC the necessary space to conduct its investigation," he said.

Previously, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission had not found any wrongdoing in the interim investigation.

He said this is because the Selangor Mobility Initiative contract was not awarded to the company by Hannah's ministry but by the Selangor state government.

However, he added that should new leads emerge, a further probe into the matter would be initiated.
