KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has vowed that appropriate action will be taken on the parties involved in the case of a Year 5 pupil who suffered a heat stroke after being forced by a teacher to stand in the sun.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry does not compromise on any misconduct that could affect the wellbeing and safety of the schooling community.
"This matter is under our close watch. The case is currently under investigation by the authorities.
"Appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation report from the authorities. The Education Ministry does not compromise on any misconduct that could affect the well-being and safety of students, teachers, and the entire school community.
"Therefore, schools are advised to always adhere to the current student management guidelines in force," she said.
On Wednesday, the boy's 35-year-old mother, A.D. Mogahana Selvi, said the Ampang Hospital had already given the family a reference letter for her son to be assessed as a PwD due to the health issues with which he has been left with.
It is understood the 11-year-old now has a nerve condition as a result of the heatstroke he suffered after standing in the sun for three hours.
Moganaha also said her son is no longer behaving normally and that he hides a lot and talks to himself.
The family would be filing a civil suit.
It was reported on Monday that the boy had to be rushed to hospital after being made to stand in the sun from 10am to 12.50pm.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail had said police had completed their investigation and had handed the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor's office for further action.
