PUTRAJAYA: The investigation into last week's attack on the Ulu Tiram police station is not only focused on the perpetrators but also the propagators, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the police investigation into the suspect's family found that they did not socialise with the local community due to their firm belief that others were 'kafir' (infidels).

"In our initial investigation, we established that they did not mix with the local community. Through the investigation, we found that they viewed others as 'kafir' (infidels) and did not attend mosque prayers because of that.

"Their firm belief is that they are the only true Muslims and that others are infidels, which led them to isolate themselves from others.

"That is why I emphasise not only focusing on the perpetrators but also the propagators. The act of labelling others as infidels leads to great destruction. Religiously, one cannot label others as infidels arbitrarily," he told reporters during a press conference at the Home Ministry's monthly assembly today.

In the attack that occurred at 2.54am last Friday, two policemen, Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed.

Another policeman, Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, was critically injured.

The 21-year-old attacker was later shot dead.

Last Saturday, seven individuals were remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of the attack at Ulu Tiram Police Station. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The seven individuals include five family members of the suspect, aged between 19 and 62, who were detained since last Friday following a raid at their residence after the incident.

Also remanded were two higher learning institution students who were present at the police station before the incident, as they are believed to be connected to the case.
