BALIK PULAU: Penang police have confirmed receiving a report on an act of provocation which insulted Islam.

This followed a receipt which went viral, where remarks insulting Islam were printed on it.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said about 8am today, they came upon a photo of the receipt, which was uploaded by X user @UPDATE1111.

He said the police report was lodged yesterday.

The incident occurred at Kenari Avenue in Bayan Lepas near here.

"Police investigation revealed that there was an order placed through the Domino's application at 3.05pm, which contained insulting words in the remarks column.

"The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act," he added.

Kamarul urged the people not to speculate about the incident.

Late last night, Amanah's Bayan Lepas state assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz called for calm following an act of provocation which insulted Islam.

He said people should leave the matter to the authorities.

In a Facebook post, Azrul said many people had misunderstood that the insulting remarks printed on the receipt of a pizza joint, was the works of the eatery.

He said he had gone to the eatery and the Teluk Bahang police station to get an explanation.

"Just like me, many people thought that the said receipt was generated by the cashier of the pizza joint.

"But it was from an online order.

"There is a remarks column on the receipt which was misused by the provocateur," he said.

Azrul, who is deputy state legislative assembly speaker, thanked those who had lodged police reports.

"(I was informed that) police have opened an investigation.

"I hope that people remain cool and are not easily swayed by provocative act of insulting Islam.
