TANGKAK: A lorry driver was killed while two others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles at Km 171.4 on the northbound stretch of the Plus Highway this morning.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department station chief Rafiah Aziz said the accident is believed to have occurred at 10.19am this morning

"Upon arrival at the scene, the fire department found that a road accident had occurred involving a Hino and an Isuzu lorry.

"There was a victim trapped inside the Hino lorry where the fire brigade extricated the trapped victim using rescue equipment.

"The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by the Health Ministry ambulance crew and was then handed over to the police for further action.

"The deceased is believed to be 53 years old," she said in a statement.

Rafiah added that two victims, the Isuzu lorry driver, and its assistant, managed to get out on their own and were given initial treatment by the ambulance services

The assistant is 57 years old, while the identity of the Isuzu lorry driver could not be determined.

Both were taken to Tangkak Hospital by ambulance where the operation concluded at 11.07am.

Rafiah said, a total of 21 firemen from Tangkak and Bukit Gambir fire stations, led by operations commander K. Kumar, were dispatched to the scene in four vehicles.
