RANAU: A teenage girl was tragically found charred in a two-storey house fire in Kampung Lasing, Ranau early this morning.

Agnes Jong Anak Adam, aged 15, was discovered by firefighters around 1.30am in the living room on the ground floor.

It is understood that during the incident, the victim's stepfather attempted to rescue her but failed due to thick smoke and raging flames.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent, Ridwan Mohd Taib said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.36am.

He said a fire engine along with the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit and eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

"Upon arrival at the scene, a two-storey house fire was reported to be fully engulfed in flames.

"The firefighting team began extinguishing operations using a two-hose reel from the fire engine water source," he said when contacted today.

He said that the fire was successfully brought under control at 2.55 am and a teenage girl was found charred in the ground floor living room of the house.

"The victim's body was then removed from the fire scene and handed over to the police for further action, and the operation was concluded at 4.26am," he said.
