KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rains and wind this afternoon led to a tree falling onto what appears to be a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) on Jalan Pinang, causing a road obstruction.

The Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLC3), when contacted confirmed the matter. A few vehicles were affected by the incident

A KLC3 Early Response team was activated following a call at 3.30pm.

"The occupants of the vehicle are reported safe. However as of now, we do not know how many victims were involved," a KLC3 call operator said when contacted by the New Straits Times.

Several other vehicles a parking lot nearby were also affected and the total number of vehicles involved has not been determined.

This is the second incident this month involving fallen trees affecting motorists in the city centre during heavy rain.

Last week, a motorist was killed after a tree uprooted and fell on several cars on Jalan Sultan Ismail.
