KUALA KUBU BAHARU: Pang Sock Tao's victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is a referendum of people's support for the Selangor government and the federal administration.

Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said despite the drop in the majority votes secured by Pang, the result of the by-election showed there is an increased support for the pact.

He said that PH obtained 57 per cent of the total votes in this by-election, which is an increase of three per cent compared to the votes obtained by the pact at the state seat during last year's state election in Selangor.

"We also won three ballot boxes namely in Kerling, Sungai Air Jernih and Pertak, which we lost in the previous elections.

"Two of these ballot boxes - Sungai Air Jernih and Pertak - are areas with a majority of Malay and Bumiputera population.

"These shows that the Malays are more confident with the unity government now," Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, told reporters today.

PH, he said, also won the early and postal voting votes.

"Majority of those who voted early (on May 7) are civil servants.

"The result of the by-election demonstrates their support for the unity government," he said.

On the plan by the opposition to file a petition if PH wins the by-election, Amirudin described it as an early admission of defeat by Perikatan Nasional.
