KUALA KUBU BAHARU: The Election Commission (EC) is about 20 per cent from achieving its amended target for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat by-election.

This after almost 40 per cent of eligible voters have cast their ballots as of 1pm today.

"A total of 38.88 per cent of the total eligible voters have voted in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election as of 1pm today," the EC said.

Earlier today, it was reported that the EC has lowered its voter turnout target from 75 per cent to 60 per cent for today's by-election.

Its deputy chairman Professor Azmi Sharom described the new target as 'more realistic' after taking into consideration the voter turnout during the state election in Selangor in August last year.

A total of 39,362 ordinary voters are eligible to vote in today's by-election, triggered by the death of its three-term incumbent, DAP's Lee Kee Hiong.
