KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry today saw the inking of 40 deals worth RM7.3 billion, signed at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (Natsec) Asia 2024 exhibitions.
The deals consisted of 17 Letters of Acceptance (LOA) worth RM3.3 billion, seven contracts worth RM1.9 billion, four Letters of Intent (LOI) worth RM1.83 billion, and 10 memoranda of understanding worth RM280 million.
Among the more significant deals were 18 units of Anti-Tank Guided Weapons - Medium Range (ATGW-MR) from Turkiye.
"These will equip our infantry battalions to enhance the capability and firepower of the
Malaysian army," the ministry said.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will replace the existing Air Surveillance Radar (ASR) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) system with a new system.
"This system is needed to ensure the safe movement of aircraft and facilitate the expeditious flow of air traffic.
"These assets will help the RMAF monitor Malaysian airspace to maintain the nation's sovereignty and provide the RMAF Air Traffic Services with the latest, state-of-the-art technology."
To ensure the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) assets – which include its surface fleet, submarines, and helicopters – are maintained at the highest operational readiness levels, several key contracts were signed.
They include contracts for the refit programme for three vessels – KD Jebat, KD Perak, and KD Baung – in collaboration with local shipyards.
The ministry is also looking to award the In-Service Support contract for the Prime Minister's- class submarines to ensure operational availability and mission safety. The RMN currently operates two submarines, the French-made Scorpenes – KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, and KD Tun Abdul Razak.
The Defence Ministry said the MoU and contract signing ceremony at the DSA and Natsec Asia 2024 reflects the symbiotic partnership between the ministry, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), and defence industry players.
