PUTRAJAYA : The government has distanced itself from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) move to summon Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Online portal, FMT reported Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as saying that the government would leave the matter to MACC and the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), should an investigation paper be prepared.

"We'll see if MACC prepares an investigation paper and hands it over to the AGC. If there is a basis (for a case), we'll leave it to the court. We have nothing to do with anything that happens after this.

"That's why I say we should assume the best (of Shukri) in this matter," he reportedly said.

Mohd Shukri has been called in by the MACC today to have his statement recorded over his son's alleged false claims issue.

The 63-year old, who is Perlis Pas Commissioner, arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya early this morning.

The MACC is looking into the alleged supply of drinking water to the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in its probe into false claims amounting to RM600,0000 involving Shukri's son.

Based on a copy of a payment note, dated Feb 19, that went viral, the RM19,505 worth of drinking water claim was allegedly supplied to Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin. The ruler is receiving treatment at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital here.

However, it was learnt that no such supply was delivered as claimed. The authenticity of the document could not be immediately verified.
