ALOR STAR: Students of SK Lata Selatan in Changlun have been instructed to engage in home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) for four days following a fire at the school yesterday.

State education director Ismail Othman said the directive was effective from today until April 25.

"For the time being, all students at the affected school will switch to PdPR for four days, starting from Monday until Thursday," he said in a statement today.

Ismail said the department will await the result of the investigation by the authorities before taking further action.

"We will wait for complete reports from the Fire and Rescue Department and Public Works Department regarding the damage and safety issues," he added.

Yesterday, a fire broke out at SK Lata Selatan that damaged five classrooms.

The incident happened during after-school hours and there were no casualties.

Bukit Kayu Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkifli Manaf said firefighters responded following a distress call at 3.09pm and the fire was contained by 3.40pm.
