ISKANDAR PUTERI: Six foreigners were nabbed yesterday in a police raid on a condominium unit suspected of functioning as a call centre for online scams and gambling activities in Puteri Harbour here.

The 5.30pm joint raid by Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Unit and the state's police led to the arrest of the foreigners aged between 24 and 36, which included four women.

They were being held in police custody to facilitate investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

State police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said the suspects were caught red-handed as they were actively engaged in phone calls believed to be attempts to defraud victims.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been operating from the rented condo unit for the past few months, targeting foreigners as their intended victims.

Police also seized laptops, mobile phones and related online gambling paraphernalia.

"There is a growing trend of criminal syndicates using residential units in gated housing areas for their illegal operations. It is an attempt to blend in as ordinary homes," said Kumar.

"However, their efforts to elude police have been unsuccessful."
