SEREMBAN: The fire that ravaged the storage facility for scheduled chemical waste at Cenviro Sdn Bhd (Pusat Kualiti Alam), Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson, earlier today was brought under control at 8.20pm.

The Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department in a statement said following an emergency call regarding a fire at the Cenviro Sdn Bhd premises at 5.58pm today, four fire stations namely from Seremban, Seremban 2, Rantau and Port Dickson with a total of 66 firemen were mobilised to respond to the incident

"The first vehicle from Seremban 2 arrived at 6:15pm, and discoveried a raging fire on the right side of the building, involving an area of 6,500 square meters in Shed A with several explosions occurring.

"Defensive and controlled firefighting operations were conducted.

"By 8:20 pm, with firefighting strategies divided into sectors A, B, C, and D, 80 per cent of the fire was successfully extinguished," it said.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said that the operation was assisted by coordination among several agencies including the Pusat Kualiti Alam First Response Fire Brigade, police, Environment Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, and Cenviro Sdn Bhd Management.

It added the cause of the incident is still under investigation, and there were no casualties involved.
