KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has been "omnipresent" in "hotspots" in the federal capital during the Hari Raya holidays.

This, said Kuala Lumpur Immigration director-general Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff, was to ensure the safety of both locals and legal foreigners.

He said, besides enforcement activities, the scheduled patrols were also important to ensure that people actually "feel" the presence of the Immigration officers so that they can feel safer.

"To ensure that Kuala Lumpur is always a safe and comfortable place for all its residents, whether locals or tourists, the department is aware of the importance of the presence of enforcement agencies in the area.

"Apart from enforcement and checks, patrols are carried out in various hotspots, with the focus being in the KLCC, Jalan Silang, Kota Raya, Bukit Bintand and Chow Kit areas," he said.

Wan Saupee said the department hoped that this initiative would be able to help maintain the security and comfort of all city dwellers and visitors.

"We hope all will feel comfortable (due to our presence), but we will also ensure that those who break Immigration laws, such as employers of illegal foreign workers, do not get away with things," he said.
