State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said police carried out its the investigation into the incident and found that it happened due to a technical problem.

"It is true that our marine boat had chased the Thai vessel when it skipper refused to stop after encroaching into our territorial waters.

"During the chase, the boat stopped suddenly causing it to turn and this caused our marine boat to accidentally hit the Thai boat.

Zaki said the incident happened about 2pm on Monday.

Following the incident, Zaki said he has held a meeting with his Thai counterpart to explain the matter.
