GERIK: The father of the woman who was killed with her husband in an accident at Kilometre 51.3 on the East-West Highway, here, yesterday, noticed a change in behaviour before their untimely death ahead of Hari Raya.

Mat Zainal Nordin, 66, said that both he and his son-in-law, Kamizan Kasimon, 42, had hugged and sought forgiveness from each other at the latter's residence in Padang Rengas before departing to go to his in-laws in Terengganu.

He said his daughter, Noor Asmah, 38, who perished in the accident, appeared to want to be alone despite usually being friendly.

Zainal said that he had been living near his daughter's family home in Kampung Laneh, Paya Lintah in Padang Rengas, Kuala Kangsar, for the past four months after retiring from government service with an agency last June.

"The way he (Kamizan) greeted me was different, it touched my heart, but I ignored that feeling. When we shook hands, Kamizan held on tightly, gripping my hand unlike he had ever before.

"Asmah, who is normally friendly, also seemed to want to be left alone and didn't want to chat with me, including when they were about to return to Terengganu.

"Their behaviour was indeed different, and when this happened (the fatal accident), only then was it clear what God wanted to show," he said when met by the media at the Gerik Hospital Forensic Unit here today.

In the accident at 12.23 noon yesterday, near the Banjaran Titiwangsa Rest and Recreation (R&R) area, Kamizan and Noor Asmah died at the scene, while their two children were seriously injured.

Both children are still being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh.

He also added that Kamizan and Asmah's eldest child was put in a medically induced coma after undergoing surgery this morning due to a brain haemorrhage from a fractured skull, while the youngest also suffered from bleeding but did not require surgery.

"As for the care arrangements for these children later, we will discuss it first with Kamizan's family. I will inform them when the grandchildren regain consciousness," he said.

Zainal said that Kamizan and his family were supposed to return from Terengganu on Friday after Hari Raya to attend the wedding of Asmah's younger brother in Teluk Intan. Even before leaving for Terengganu, Asmah had prepared the wedding gifts for her brother.

"Before they left, I also reminded Kamizan's father to attend the wedding ceremony in Teluk Intan. He said he would return here (to Padang Rengas) on Friday because he needed to attend the ceremony on Sunday. Asmah also managed to prepare the wedding gifts for her younger brother.

"As a result of this accident, my son's wedding ceremony on Sunday will still proceed, just with a more sombre mood considering all preparations have been made, including catering reservations," he said, adding that he is also a father of six.
