KAJANG: A 16-year-old boy died after falling 10m into a ravine while hiking Bukit Broga, Semenyih, near here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the department received a report of a missing teenager at the recreational site at 4.08pm yesterday.

He said the incident was reported by a man believed to be the guardian of the victim, Adi Putra Affendi, 16, with whom he had been hiking along with two other friends.

"They began their hike at 8am before realising that the victim was missing at 11.15am.

"A team from the Semenyih fire station was despatched to the location to coordinate the search and rescue operation, along with other assisting agencies such as the police, mountain guides, forest rangers, the Civil Defence Force and volunteer firefighters, involving a total of 47 personnel.

"The search operation employed the 'sweeping search' method from Peak 1 to Peak 3, covering an area of 1.5km," he said in a statement.

Razali said that the first day's search operation was called off at 2.30am after failing to locate the victim and was resumed this morning.

The rescue team later found the victim unconscious, having reportedly fallen into a 10m-deep ravine approximately 100m from the Bukit Broga gateway at 2.50pm today.

"The rescue team successfully extricated the victim at 3.42pm. However, he was pronounced dead by a medical team from the Health Ministry," he said.

The victim's body has been handed over to police for further action.
