KOTA KINABALU: The recent power outage in Labuan has been traced back to an underground cable malfunction belonging to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), Sabah Media reported.

SESB senior manager of Asset Management, Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof said the repair work on the damaged underground cable required specialised expertise and skills.

He said the disruption began on April 1 at 4.22pm, affecting several areas including Jeti Lama Labuan, Masjid India, Alliance Bank Building, Melati Inn Hotel, Roro and Labuan Ferry Terminals, Labuan Liberty Port, Jalan OKK Abdullah, Dataran Post Office, Mariner Hotel, Jalan Bunga Anggerik, and Jalan Bunga Dahlia.

"SESB's Labuan Zone received the outage report at 4.22pm and a technical team from SESB promptly conducted an inspection," he said in a media release on April 3.

The electrical supply restoration process was conducted in stages and immediately initiated. Power was successfully restored to some areas, while others remained without power, necessitating prior repair works.

"At 7.02pm, the location of the underground cable fault was identified, and immediate repair efforts were undertaken. However, at 4am, the repair work had to be halted due to heavy rain," he added.

The power supply was fully restored by 12.02pm on April 2.
