KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Education Department (JPNT) has suspended a senior teacher who was allegedly involved in 'swinger' activities.

Department director Jelani Sulong said this was done to enable the police to conduct a detailed investigation.

The department, he said, would also wait for the court's decision after the teacher was charged recently with human-trafficking.

"Charges were recently filed in court and the teacher has claimed trial.

"At the department level, we are waiting for the court's decision and disciplinary action will follow. At the district education office level, they have conducted a thorough investigation," he said.

Last Thursday, a teacher claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to charges of trafficking a local woman for sexual exploitation.

The accused, Mohd Hasfyanizam Mansor, 48, made the plea after the charges were read before Judge Nazlyza Mohamad Nazri.

However, the accused's friend, Mohamad Fazley Jaafar, 29 who faced the same charges, pleaded guilty.

According to the charges, the accused had allegedly jointly trafficked a 29-year-old local woman for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Both were charged under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670) and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

They can be sentenced to jail for up to 20 years and a fine, if found guilty.

The court has set March 31 for case mention.
