MUKAH: Small traders are making significant strides in mainstream commerce through the Retail Digital Initiative (ReDI) programme, which has been operational since April 2021, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said this initiative ensures small traders are not left out in the digital business transformation.

This effort was spearheaded by Mukah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and the Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM).

One of the government's strategies to promote online purchasing includes setting up registration counters for Touch'n Go and Spay Global, a move embraced by the state government, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Royston discussed these developments during the launch of the 2024 Ramadan Rahmah Bazaar at Medan Ria Setiaraja.

The bazaar was part of the Rahmah Madani Umbrella Programme, aimed at reducing living costs by offering affordable iftar meal options.

Traders at the bazaar were encouraged to provide a Rahmah Menu priced at RM5 or less to offer more choices to patrons.

In line with these objectives, 91 traders at the Medan Ria Setiaraja Ramadan Bazaar in Mukah have fully adopted cashless digital payments.

Following the event, Royston conducted a site visit at Dataran Pehin Setiaraja Mukah to oversee the preparations for the Juh Berambih Sungkei@Mukah 2024 event.
