KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will extend morning and evening peak hour operations for rail and bus for Ramadan from tomorrow.

The rail services include the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and KL Monorail.

Prasarana said the change aimed to facilitate travel during the holy month, especially before the breaking of fast.

It said morning peak hour operations would begin 30 minutes earlier, running from 6.30am to 9.30am, while evening peak hour operations would be extended by an hour and 30 minutes, running from 4pm to 8pm.

"Journeys will be smoother with the extension and higher train frequency.

"It is hoped the initiative will encourage the public to use public transportation, thus reducing road congestion," Prasarana said.

It said peak hour operations for Rapid bus services in the Klang Valley and Penang, including MRT feeder buses, would run from 6.30am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 8pm.

"The peak hours for Rapid bus services in Kuantan remain unchanged."

For Ramadan, Prasarana subsidiary Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd will open mini Ramadan bazaars at three LRT stations: Pasar Seni, Damai and Ampang Park.

Prasarana said grab-and-go food and beverage would be sold at markets at the Sri Rampai, Taman Melati and Gombak LRT stations.

"The food will be available from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, giving users a chance to get iftar meals."
