KUALA LUMPUR: Two people were aboard the BK 160 Gabriel light aircraft which crashed near Kapar, including the pilot, says the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

CAAM chief executive officer, Captain Datuk Norazman Mahmud said the aircraft bearing registration number I-POOC is operated by Air Adventure Flying Club.

It departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor at 1.28pm for a recreational flight.

"Last contact made by the aircraft with air traffic control was at 1.35pm, however, there was no distress call received.

"Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre at Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre was immediately activated to determine the location of the aircraft," he said in a statement today.

Norazman said the condition of the pilot and passenger aboard have yet to be confirmed at press time.

He said the safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.

Earlier, it was reported that an aircraft crashed near Kampung Tok Muda, Kapar today.

Fire and Rescue Department said it received a distress call at 1.56pm and firemen arrived at the scene in Kg Tok Muda Kapar around 2.20pm.

It said search and rescue operations are currently underway and information on the victims is not available yet.
