ISKANDAR PUTERI: A seven-vehicle collision along KM5.4 of Jalan Ismail Sultan towards Johor Baru on Sunday left six people injured, including two in critical condition.

The footage of the aftermath of the accident involving two cars and five motorcyclists first appeared online early yesterday morning.

However, initial checks with the authorities revealed that no police reports were lodged.

It is learnt that there were not many vehicles on the road when the accident occurred, as it was the second-day Chinese New Year public holiday.

There was limited information available on the incident as the area is a relatively new housing estate with private schools and commercial buildings.

It is also learnt that the victims lodged police reports late last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the accident occurred about 9.21pm on Sunday night.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the machine a motorcyclist was riding had skidded earlier, but it remained on the right lane of the three-laned stretch of road.

A Madza driver, traveling on the right lane had abruptly swerved to the left lane, in order to avoid the motorcycle on the road.

Meanwhile, the Kia driver traveling behind the Mazda, applied emergency brakes to avoid crashing into the stalled motorcycle on the road, which caused the third driver behind the Kia to crash into its rear.

The crash subsequently caused four motorcyclists, traveling behind the third driver on the right lane, to crash among themselves.

Rahmat said it was premature to conclude if the drivers were speeding or the possibility that the motorcyclists were racing among when the accident occurred.

He said since the victims were injured with two sustaining severe injuries, with information received at press time was sparse.

"It's too early to determine the situation, with investigations that are ongoing," he added.

The two severely injured motorcyclists were rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital's emergency unit, while four motorcyclists sustained minor injuries.

Both car drivers escaped injury.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a motorised vehicle without due care and without reasonable consideration for other road users.

Rahmat urged witnesses with information to facilitate investigation to contact the Iskandar Puteri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 07-510 1322 or investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Farhan Roslen at 017-630 4943.
