PASIR MAS: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), aspiring to maintain its dignity, has chosen the legal route against its members of Parliament who allegedly betrayed the party.
State Umno Information chief Datuk Zawawi Othman said such a move suggested that Bersatu had realised the repercussions of its past actions.
Zawawi also expressed scepticism, considering it a mere 'fake warning.'
He even pointed out that the number of party members leaving Bersatu was almost equal to the number receiving the warning.
Notably, even Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had previously switched parties, prompting Zawawi to question: "If he can do that, why can't others?"
On Jan 29, Hamzah said the party would take legal action against MPs who have betrayed the party.
He had said this was decided during the special meeting of the Bersatu Supreme Council.
Hamzah had also said that Bersatu is prepared to face any possibility of by-elections.
Although the statement did not explicitly reference anyone, it is believed that Hamzah was referring to the six MPs who declared their support for the unity government under Anwar's leadership.
The six Perikatan Nasional elected representatives who threw their support behind Anwar are Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
Yesterday, Mohd Azizi said he would leave it up to Bersatu's leadership to decide his fate when he voiced his support for the unity government.
Azizi said he would accept any decision made by the party with an open heart.
He said guaranteeing the well-being of his constituents is a priority in his political career.
