GEORGE TOWN: Sixteen stalls at the Lorong Bukit Dumbar hawker centre in Jelutong were destroyed in a fire early this morning.

Jalan Perak Fire Station chief A'azelan Hassan said they received a distress call at about 5.32am before mobilising a team of 39 firefighters to extinguish the fire.

He said the fire involved Class C food stalls with an estimated ​​100 x 80 sq ft area.

"The destruction is estimated at 80 per cent.

"A Proton Preve parked nearby was also partially burnt, about three per cent," he said today.

No one was injured in the incident.

A'azelan said the fire was brought under control at 6.15am and completely extinguished at 6.49am.
