PETALING JAYA: Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R. Ramanan today says he has not taken any salary and allowances since becoming an elected representative.

The Sungai Buloh member of parliament kept mum when asked about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for elected representatives at the state and federal levels, who are entitled to more than one pension scheme, to choose only one.

"All my salary and allowances have been given to places of worship: mosques, surau, temples and churches.

"So for me to comment on the pension proposal is wrong since I don't take any salary or allowance. I don't want to comment on that."

He said this after a working visit to Ibu Pejabat Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) here.

Present were AIM board acting chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Syed Junid and AIM managing director Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz.

Ramanan became an elected representative when he won the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election.

It was reported last month that he had fulfilled his election promise by donating his salary and monthly allowances to places of worship in the Sungai Buloh constituency.

He said he had distributed RM332,000 to 74 places of worship.

Yesterday, Anwar reiterated such a call and asked politicians to emulate his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, a government doctor and Bandar Tun Razak MP, who took only one pension scheme.
