KUALA LUMPUR: The rapid development of the construction industry requires a significant number of technical and professional personnel, including those specialising in quantity surveying, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said similar to engineers and architects, quantity surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of construction activities.

"The activity directly involves financial management and building contracts from the early stage to the final account settlement.

"Therefore, quantity surveyors must cooperate with discipline to ensure the success of a certain project."

He said this when officiating the Quantity Surveyors International Conference (QSIC) and the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (LJB M) award ceremony in conjunction with its 50th-anniversary celebration.

Also present were Works Ministry secretary general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad, LJBM chairman Datuk Seri Amran Mohd Majid, and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zaid Zakaria.

He said through this year's QSIC, departments and agencies, especially under Works Ministry would be the driving force to guarantee the quality of the profession and industry to reach a more excellent level.

"Idea sharing, knowledge, experiences of the QSIC participants and strategic cooperation with the organisations involved also touch on the issues related to the construction industry.

"The exploration and integration of these new ideas are crucial, along with critical follow-up actions, to navigate the challenges and technology's explosion of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 as well as the increasingly challenging global construction industry developments in realising Sustainable Development

"Sustainable Development fulfils the current need without jeopardising the ability of future generations to fulfil their own needs," he said.

QSIC is organised by the LJBM in collaboration with groups such as the Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia, Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, Public Works Department, supported by CIDB, the Malaysian Highway Authority.
