KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a viral video where an alleged police station chief is seen assaulting a member of the public.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat in a statement said the police had sighted a 37-second viral video on X (formerly Twitter) where a man believed to be a police officer physically attacked a civilian in a public place.

"Checks found that on Jan 12 at 3.11pm, a post was uploaded on X by the CEO of Expose, @druglordfxdl.

"The user had quoted the name and position of the police officer involved as the Sri Gading police station chief, Sazalan Yusof.

As such, he said, the police will investigate the matter thoroughly and ask the public or witnesses to come forward with any information to assist the investigation.

"Legal actions will be taken against the relevant parties without compromise," he said.

The video which has since gone viral saw the alleged police station chief repeatedly slapping and pulling the hair of the victim he was standing over.
