KUALALUMPUR: Police busted a diesel smuggling syndicate with the arrest of twelve suspects and seizure worth RM15.1 million in Klang, on Tuesday.

The raid which was carried out by a team of officers from the Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Investigation Intelligence (WCB/PSK) under Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) following week long intelligence and surveillance.

Bukit Aman KDNKA director Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said his party arrested 10 foreigners and two locals during the raid.

"Police also seized 1,022,860 liters of subsidised diesel, 18 oil tanker trucks, 16 tanks containing diesel, 14 oil pumps and two record books.

"The value of the seizure is estimated to be about RM15.1 million," he said in a statement.

Hazani said this year alone, Jan 1 to 10, WCB/PSK so far launched 13 raids and arrest 40 people associted to smuggling fuel.

"The total worth of the loot seized stands at RM39.2 million", he said adding that the case is investigated under Regulation 9(2) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974.

Hazani added that police are committed to working with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living in fighting the misuse of controlled and subsidised goods.

"We want to ensure that the country's revenue is always protected from unnecessary leakages," he added.
