KUANTAN: Continuous heavy rainfall across Pahang since Dec 24, has resulted in an increase in the number of flood victims at two districts today compared to yesterday.

As of noon today, Pahang recorded 698 victims from 170 families seeking shelter at 14 flood relief centres (PPS) in Raub and Lipis compared to only 171 victims in Raub yesterday afternoon.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said Raub had 463 victims from 118 families housed at nine PPS while Lipis had 235 victims from 52 families at five PPS.

"The flood relief centres in Raub were opened in stages from 12.40am yesterday while the PPS in Lipis began operating at noon yesterday.

"The number of flood victims at both the districts has dropped to 698 at noon today compared to 700 earlier at 8am after two victims in Raub were allowed to return home. In some areas, the rain has stopped but the flood has yet to recede forcing the victims to remain at the PPS," he said.

Jerantut became the first district to be hit by monsoon floods in Pahang on Dec 24 when 78 people were moved to the PPS at the SK Felda Kota Gelanggi 1 after Sungai Siam burst its banks and inundated several houses in Kota Gelanggi 1. The PPS was closed at 11am yesterday.
