ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two motorcyclists who were on their way to work in Singapore were killed in an accident involving a lorry, a trailer and a bus near the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza (south-bound) this morning.

In the 5.50am incident, the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle when the brake malfunctioned, before ramming into the four other vehicles on the left side of the road near the toll plaza.

The motorcyclists aged 49 and 54 succumbed to severe head and bodily injuries after they were dragged by the lorry during the accident.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the remains of the deceased were sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru for further actions.

"The driver of the trailer, as well as the bus driver and 29 passengers on board of the vehicle escaped unharmed.

"The 45-year-old lorry driver however complained of chest pain," he said, adding that the lorry driver is receiving treatment from the hospital.

He said the police are expected to arrest the lorry driver to facilitate investigation into the case after receiving treatment for his injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said.

Ten personnel from the Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene after the Johor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 6.04am.
