RANTAU PANJANG: Since 2015, flood victims in several villages here have built a small 'bridge' connecting their flooded homes to the main road to make it easy for them to move during the monsoon season.

These bridges are constructed using pieces of wood.

However, since the first wave struck the state on Nov 19, some villagers have decided to build larger bridges, almost double the size of the previous ones.

Among the villages spotted with a long wooden bridge was Kampung Lubok Gong Hilir.

Their bridge, which measures more than 40m long, was set up by few villagers using the 'gotong-royong' concept.

The bridge connects three houses that were inundated by the on-going floods.

According to housewife Norizan Che Soh, 53, they took almost three days to complete the bridge.

"It is normal for the flood victims here to build such bridge during the monsoon season.

"It will make it easy for us to move our belongings out from our flooding homes," said the mother of three.

A survey at the village showed that more than 20 residents have set up the bridges in front their homes as the Golok river continued to breach its banks this morning.

Meanwhile, the Golok river in Rantau Panjang remained above its danger level at 10.02m as at 11.15am this morning, which is 1.02m above its danger mark of 9m.

The other Golok river in Tumpat was recorded above the alert mark.

The number of flood victims in Kelantan increased to 5,466 people as at 11am this morning compared to 4,840 last night

The 5,466 people from 1,732 families are now taking shelter at 17 flood relief centres in Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah districts.
