RANTAU PANJANG: Housewife Rokiah Ismail was sitting at the front door of her wooden house when she saw a cobra approach the front of the house on Friday.

The 71-year-old Person With Disability (PwD) who is suffering from nerve pain said she could not run for safety due to her condition.

"I am Iucky that the cobra did not bit me.... I remained seated until the huge snake disappeared.

"When I told my husband about the snake, he said maybe it was a bad sign. 

"I told my husband that l do not really believe it but it would better for us to take it as a reminder to be on alert," she said.

The mother of four said flood waters entered her home in Kampung Bakat the following day.

"For us, this first round of flood is really big as the water had entered our home in less than 24 hours," said Rokiah, who has been suffering from nerve pain since nine years ago.

During the interview, Rokiah was accompanied by her 67-year-old husband Ramli Mohamad who is also suffering from knee pain.

The couple was among 513 flood victims who are taking shelter at the SK Gual Tinggi relief centre here today.

The 513 victims from 162 families come from several villages in Rantau Panjang that were inundated by floodwaters.

Besides Kampung Bakat, the other affected villages were Kampung Tok Deh, Kampung Tersang and Kampung Lanchang
