KEPALA BATAS: Two friends died when the car they were travelling in was involved in a fatal crash at Jalan Sungai Lokan here early this morning.

The Kepala Batas Fire and Rescue station was alerted to the incident about 2.41am.

Operations officer Nazril Syazwan Khalil said both victims, who sustained severe injuried, died at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Muhammad Fakhrul Rodzi Fauzi, 31, and Muhammed Ahsan Mohamed Ayub, 32.

"We received a call about 2.41am, alerting us to a crash. When we arrived at the scene, we found a Perodua Myvi had skidded from the edge of the road.

"There were two men trapped inside the car.

"We managed to extricate them and they were confirmed dead by paramedics at the scene."

Nazril said initial investigation revealed the crash involved the Perodua Myvi and a BMW.

He said the 46-year-old BMW driver escaped unhurt and managed to get out of the car before firemen arrived.

"We have handed over the deceased to the police for the next course of action," he added.

The operation was completed about 4.04am.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a woman was injured when she lost control of the Toyota Rush she was driving before hitting an electrical pole.

The incident happened at Jalan Sungai Lembu, Pagar Teras, Bukit Mertajam about 9.20pm last night.

Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue station operations officer Abu Bakar Hassan said the 24-year-old was pinned to her seat.

"We managed to free her before handing her over to paramedics who arrived at the scene," he said.
