KEPALA BATAS: Police have detained a BMW driver for investigation into a fatal crash which claimed the lives of two friends at Jalan Permatang Baru here early this morning.

Acting Seberang Prai Utara district chief Siti Nor Salawati Saad said a breathalyser test conducted on the driver found alcohol content above the permissible limit.

"We have remanded the driver for investigation," she said today.

It was reported that two friends died when the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in was involved in a fatal crash with a BMW about 2.30am yesterday.

The victims have been identified as Muhammad Fakhrul Rodzi Fauzi, 31, and Muhammed Ahsan Mohamed Ayub, 32.

Both were pinned to the seats and firefighters had to extricate them.

Siti Nor Salawati said checks showed the Perodua Myvi was heading towards Kepala Batas from Sungai Lokan and the BMW from the opposite direction.

"When the BMW approached the scene, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and collided with the Perodua Myvi on the opposite lane.

"The BMW driver escaped unhurt while the Perodua Myvi driver and passenger died at the scene," she added.

The case is probed under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police urged those with information to contact investigating officer Inspector Ahmad Hafizi Mohamad at 01126967676 to assist in the investigation.
