GEORGE TOWN: A woman died while two men were seriously injured when the car they were travelling in skidded before crashing into a tree along Jalan Macalister here early this morning.

The deceased, identified as Foo Yu Xuan, 24, who was driving a Volkswagen car, died at the scene due to serious injuries after she was trapped in her seat.

State Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Sha'ari Mansor said they were alerted to the incident at about 4.20am and rushed to the scene.

"We found a car that had crashed into a tree.

"There were three people inside, a woman and two men, all pinned to their seats. We managed to extricate them and bring them out of the vehicle at 5.27pm.

"Paramedics at the scene confirmed the woman has died," he said today.

Sha'ari said the remains have been sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.

"The two injured have also been sent to the same hospital for treatment," he added.
