IPOH: The sister of hit-and-run victim Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie performed multiple cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) attempts in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Nurse Nur Zawani, 28, said at the time of the incident, she was near the scene and was shocked when she was told that her brother was involved in an accident.

She immediately rushed to Muhammad Zaharif Affendi who was lying stiff by the roadside and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him while waiting for ambulance to arrive.

"I held my brother's head and tried to save him. I performed CPR many times but there was no response. My father who was also there helped my brother to recite syahadah," she said.

Nur Zawani said her mother and father were distraught by the incident, and the victim was the youngest of four siblings and loved by many.

The family of the 17-year-old student is now demanding justice over the senseless death.

Nur Zawani said that whoever the perpetrator is, the individual needs to be brought to justice and receive a befitting punishment.

"If he made a mistake, (you could have) met my parents, even if you want to put him in lock up, it's okay, but it's not your right to do that (purposely hit her brother).

In the 12.30pm incident, the victim was on his way home in Chemor from his school, SMK Jati in Meru, here.

It is understood that before the incident, there was an altercation involving the car driver and the victim who was making noise on his motorcycle.

The 44-year-old driver chased the victim for almost a kilometre before hitting him from behind. Due to the impact, the victim fell and was dragged almost five metres.

The victim, who was still fully dressed in school sports uniform, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The body of Muhammad Zaharif Affendi was claimed by the family after the post-mortem process was completed at around 6.30pm and buried at the Kampung Kepayang Luar Islamic Cemetery here.

Earlier, police arrested the senior police officer from Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters and he will be remanded tomorrow for further investigation.

A post-mortem conducted on the student at the HRPB here found that the cause of his death was chest and abdomen injuries due to a road traffic crash.
