IPOH: Those who have retained their portfolios in the new cabinet lineup as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today have added value to the unity government.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said he believed that the role of ministers and menteri besar at the federal and state levels was to serve the the country.

"If you become a minister at the federal level or menteri besar, we serve at the pleasure of the country and it is a trust, a privilege and it is also a burden.

"I feel that at the state level, that is the right of the menteri besar. Because that is the law and constitution, the same goes to the federal level, that is the right of the prime minister.

"And as a minister, we need to focus on our job, and if you are retained, praise to Allah, (it means) our plans have added value to the administration of the government and we will continue it," he said.

Rafizi said this in a press conference after attending the Farming Entrepreneur Initiative (Intan) under the People's Income Initiative (IPR-Intan) Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) Programme at Dewan Bahagia, Hospital Bahagia, Ulu Kinta here today.

Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and NCIA chief executive Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan.

Rafizi added if he were given another portfolio in the Cabinet, he would think positively about it.

"(That means) I have another added value at other places. So those civil servants, politicians who have been chosen and appointed, for me, you need to have that kind of attitude because we serve at the leisure and pleasure of the country," he added.

Earlier, Anwar announced several changes in the federal cabinet line-up and the decision was made after discussing with leaders of parties in the unity government.

Anwar's restructured cabinet now comprises 31 ministers, supported by 29 deputy ministers.

This represents a slight expansion from his initial cabinet of 28 members, with assistance from 27 deputy ministers.
