KOTA BARU: Kota Baru has become the latest district affected by floods in the state, with a relief centre opened today.

So far, 177 evacuees have been placed at the centre, located in SK Sering.

Apart from Kota Baru, the other districts affected by floods are Pasir Mas and Bachok where three more relief centres were opened.

As of 8pm tonight, the four relief centres are housing 795 victims from 235 families.

Besides SK Sering, the other centres were SMK Beris Panchor with 282 victims, SK Tok Deh (227) and SK Jelawat (109).

Also as of 8pm, water levels for Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang was recorded at 8.35m, which is 0.35m above its warning level.

Another part of the river, in Tumpat, was measured at 2.15m, which is 0.15m above the alert mark.

Meanwhile, the floods in Kelantan claimed its third victim after a 17-year-old youth drowned today.

The incident happened about noon. His body was discovered by firemen shortly after they arrived at the scene.

The first victim was a nearly 2-year-old boy who drowned in a river at the back of his house in Kampung Kenali near Kubang Kerian on Sunday.
