KOTA KINABALU: Local exporters could tap on the opportunity to export their products to Hong Kong from here.

Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said Teleport BKI, an air freight logistics company under AirAsia, operates six times a week.

Teleport BKI is the only designated company transporting goods from Kota Kinabalu to Hong Kong.

During an inspection at Kota Kinabalu International Airport here, Phoong said each trip utilises only 50 per cent of the cargo capacity, primarily focusing on transporting seafood.

"This observation underscores the untapped potential for Sabah's exports, particularly to Hong Kong and the broader Chinese region," he said in a statement.

Phoong also said there is a need for intensified efforts to support local businesses in expanding their export activities.

Last week, Phoong and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor met with Hong Kong chief executive John Lee Ka-Chiu to strengthen the bilateral trade relations between Sabah and Hong Kong, including implementing strategic initiatives to enhance Sabah's export capabilities.
